Bhādra śukla-aṣṭamī — the eighth day of the bright fortnight of Bhādra

Dates follow the Māyāpur (India) reckoning, the base of most published Vaiṣṇava calendars. The tradition sets each day by the tithi present at local sunrise, so your own date may fall a day earlier or later — see the calendar for your city.

Rādhāṣṭamī marks Rādhā's appearance in Barsānā, near Vṛndāvana. In theology she is the personal form of Kṛṣṇa's own pleasure potency () — which is why the chart places her beside him at the centre not as a consort added to the picture but as the reason the centre is about love at all. The tradition treats her as the measure of how far devotion can go.
