A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda (1896–1977) was a disciple of Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī who, in his late sixties, travelled from Kolkata to New York and over the following decade established the tradition's presence worldwide and translated and commented on the Bhāgavata and the Gītā at length. His appearance day falls the day after Janmāṣṭamī. Much of the English-language source material this site draws on is his.
